OK, The Press Start column has settled in here on Boob.ie. Before we get too comfortable though, let’s go through some recently asked questions, and see if we can’t keep everybody quiet for a little while longer.
Q. Where’s the Bioshock 2 review?
A. The Bioshock 2 review is on the way! I never review a game without playing to the end. I’ve just finished it, so I’m ready to share my thoughts. Expect it soon!
Q. How do you decide which games to review? And which platform?
A. We don’t have the privilege of receiving free games here at Boob.ie, so all games reviewed are purchased by me. Generally, I’ll obey the Hype machine, and I’ll have all AAA releases pretty close to launch. I’ll also purchase indie and lesser known games if there’s something special about them. As for platform, I actively collect games for 360, so multi-platform games are usually on 360. I do purchase PS3 exclusives (MAG review soon, and Heavy rain out Friday).
Q. But PS3 is better. XBox sucks.
A. Technically not a question, but I disagree. While I admit that I play more XBox on a daily basis, the PS3 is still a very good platform. Some of the games available make it worthwhile owning a PS3 on their own (Mostly Uncharted 1 & 2, MGS and upcoming titans like God Of War III). So in conclusion, while I personally sway towards XBox, the PS3 is still a great system. Oh, and it plays Blu-Ray.
Q. What kind of setup does Press Start use for Reviews?
A. I have a couple of different setups and use a variety while reviewing games. These are split over 2 HD screens. I do not test at SD. Graphics very rarely factor too highly on my list of priorities anyway. Below are the setups I use;
Launch XBox 360 Pro Console with Component cable on a 19 inch Samsung LCD screen at 720P.
40GB Playstation 3 with HDMI cable on a 19 inch Samsung LCD Screen at 720P.
XBox Elite 250GB with HDMI cable on 40 inch Samsung LCD Screen at 1080P with Panasonic 5.1 Surround Sound.
PS3 Slim 250GB with HDMI cable on 40 inch Samsung LCD Screen at 1080P with Panasonic 5.1 Surround Sound.
Q. What’s coming up in future editions of Press Start?
A. I’m currently playing through Dante’s Inferno (XBox), and not getting much time with MAG on PS3.
The Bioshock 2 review is coming, as are the Top 5 lists for PS3, Multiformat and All-Time.
Heavy Rain is out this Friday on PS3, so that’s also on the list.
