Two Boobs Good, Four Boobs Better!

For those of you who are students, unemployed or elderly, daytime TV fills the majority of your day and one such staple of that is Neighbours. Even if you’ve never watched an episode of the show you basically know the drill – families living in houses on a street in Australia. I myself have to hold my hands up to watching Neighbours on a regular basis and over the years have watched many pretty female inhabitants of Ramsay Street come and go.

On this Top Ten I’ve listed ten of the most attractive of these Aussie girls in the order of when they first appeared on the show.

Charlene Robinson played by Kylie Minogue (1986-1988)

In the first year or so of Neighbours there wasn’t a particular emphasis on good-looking characters instead the focus was on establishing the main families and characters such as Jim Robinson and Helen Daniels. The only female character worth looking at was Daphne, a former stripper in the show; however she wasn’t cast as eye candy. After Neighbours was almost cancelled in its first year and swapped channels new characters were cast including Guy Pearce’s Mike Young and the decision to recast Jason Donavon as Scott Robinson. Soon after Madge’s daughter Charlene appeared trying to break into her mother’s house and was caught by Scott. Soon after Scott and Charlene began a relationship and in a scene everybody remembers they got married however the path of love never ran smooth when Scott cheated on lovely Kylie with her friend Jane Harris.

For me Charlene was so sexy because of her tomboyish nature, the character was a mechanic so she spent a lot of time in her overalls but when she got out of them her body was stunning a particular episode that sticks in my mind was when she was in a blue bikini. After three years on the show Kylie moved on but we will always have the memories of probably Neighbours’ most remembered romance and Charlene’s feisty but feminine nature.

What happened next? Kylie Minogue whatever happened to her? Oh yeah she went on to be a global superstar six UK number one singles and four number one albums later she is an advocate for several charities and even had a small role in Moulin Rouge. It’s fair to say that she left Neighbours at the right time but she should never forget that it’s where she got her big break.

Beth Brennan played by Natalie Imbruglia (1992-1994)

After Kylie left there was a large hole in the female cast and with the possible exception of the Alessi twins there was no totty to speak of. Then Beth Brennan appeared like Charlene she was a woman in a man’s world but instead of a mechanic this time she was a builder. Like Charlene she was also involved in a memorable romance and in her case it was blonde surfer bozo Brad Willis who, in one of the most memorable stories of the time, stupidly cheated on her with Lou’s daughter Lauren. Although all was right in the end they got married and left the street together. Imbruglia made Beth a sexy character but in a rather unassuming way she was the typical girl-next-door trusting but with a strong will and more importantly she was absolutely gorgeous.

What happened next? Like with Kylie, Natalie Imbruglia started a pop career and had a massive hit in 1997 with Torn. In recent years she has split her time between her music career and other pursuits including acting in films like Johnny English and becoming a judge on one season of the Australian X-Factor.
