Seasonings make food taste better and they’re cheap and easy… like your Ma.

We’re all dealing with left overs and struggling with ideas of what to do with them.  But you can do loads with the left overs and with stuff that you’ve already (probably) got lying around the kitchen cupboards and presses.  Plus we’re giving you more credit than we usually do and reckon that at least some of you put the bit of effort in when you’re about to chow down.

Here is a list of seasonings even the most broke, most incompetent cooks can benefit immensely from having in your cupboard and the reasons why!

What? – Salt (ideally sea salt not that yucky dusty stuff)

Why? – Makes everything taste better.

What? – Pepper (ideally course ground not that yucky dusty stuff)

Why? – Makes everything taste better.

What? - Soy Sauce

Why? – Makes vegetables and rice not taste like they’ve been drowned especially when combined with coarse ground black pepper.

What? - Basil and/or Oregano (the dried stuff is fine)

Why? - Makes vegetables, mince, pasta, tomatoes taste fucking sublime.

What? - Paprika/Chilli (the dried stuff is fine)

Why? – As above only hot and in a good way.

Others?

White Pepper is better for seasoning meat like steaks, chops and burgers.

Chinese Five Spice makes stir frys taste a bit more authentic.

Tip?

Add seasoning sparingly, bit by bit. You can always add but you can never take away…

Nother one?

Use your nose to suss out what works with what and how much. It’s there to spare your taste buds the suffering.

Like that? Maybe you'll like these. Then again, maybe you won't. We're not fucking psychics you know.
