We’re big fans of MMA here, in case you couldn’t tell by the excellent UFC event previews from our very own Baz_Morning Star. We here at Press Start are also huge fans of the digital version, which allows us to participate a little more actively in the sport without being beaten to a pulp.
We once bold-facedly claimed that UFC Undisputed 2010 had the deepest fighting engine we had ever experienced. Then EA MMA came along and revealed some cracks in the previously uncontested fighting title. Now THQ are releasing Undisputed 3, and we’re hoping that some serious shine and polish has been applied to make this the must-have MMA game.We loved UFC Undisputed 2010, but there was certainly some room for improvement.
We’re a little dubious about the fact that the game has been tinkered to be simpler and easier to pick-up, and hope it hasn’t lost any of its trademark depth. That said, we are looking forward to a revamped fighting system, and some new tweaks ranging from the minor (animated ring entrances) to the major (new Bantamweight and Featherweight classes). There’s also going to be a new Pride mode, which revisits the famous Japanese fighting events, and will include its brutal rules. Soccer kicks ahoy!
We cant help but get a little excited by this roster trailer, which shows off the many licensed fighters to be included in the upcoming game. THQ and Yukes are so proud of their translation of each fighter to digital format that for the last couple of weeks they’ve run a marketing campaign based around predicting real life fights with their simulated characters. They’ve been pretty accurate so far!
UFC Undisputed is due for release on 17th February for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Please watch this space for a review.
