Don’t get me wrong, I do panto when I can, it’s a great hobby. But sometimes (usually due to budget) costumes are a bit shit. But not only that, but when you stick two people in a single costume, and they’re in there for hours at a time, it’s hard to expect them to be all happy about it when there’s screaming kids fucking crisps and coke bottles at them.

Especially when the guy in the head part is hungover and less than caring about how much he farts.

I’ve been in one or two costumes. I’ve been in something that would make Jim Henson come back as a zombie just to eat whoever designed it. It was meant to be a Giant for Jack and the Beanstalk. The facial expression on this thing was like it was being fisted by King Kong. Then again, it did have me inside it, so not much different.

Anyway, inside a panto horse costume, it’s hot, and most of the time you just have to stand there, either bent over or with the other person bent over with their head up your arse. It’s not fun, so I can understand why a lot of them phone in a performance.

This particular double act however, did no such thing and as a result have given us the best viral video of recent memory.

For me, the double running man at the start isn’t bettered, but it’s still a great video.

Comedy duo Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal of Rhett & Link have released their latest video, Dope Zebra. The music video features dancers in a two-man zebra suit dancing to the single by the same name (available on iTunes). Keep an eye out for a cameo by Chuck Testa, who they helped turn into a huge internet meme.

Check it.

While growing up Kelly was mad into gymnastics for but she had to quit due to an injury. She later took up cheerleading (hawt damn!) then went on to study broadcast journalism, hoping to become a television anchor. Kelly then went on to become a Hawaiian Tropic and Venus Swimwear bikini model before she decided to enter into professional wrestling.

Kelly made her debut in the WWE in 2006.

She participated in lots of wrestling matches, and was moved to the Raw brand in July 2008. Throughout the next year, she unsuccessfully challenged for the WWE Divas Championship on several occasions, before moving to SmackDown! in early 2010. There she challenged Lay-Cool for the WWE Women’s Championship, but was unsuccessful.

In 2011, Kelly moved back to Raw, where she captured her first Divas Championship.

Every film has to start in some way, right? And for the majority of those films they decide to start by displaying the credits of the cast and crew before the film properly begins. Sometimes these credits are just put over the top of the opening scenes but for some films the opening credit sequences are just as important as the rest of the film. For me a good opening credit sequence has to either introduce the characters in some way or give you some backstory on the plot or at least give you an idea of the themes the movie will be exploring.

The opening sequence is often aided by the use of a great song or memorable score as a lot of those below have got. I have to say it has been incredibly hard getting this list down to just 10 films so if I do miss you favourite out leave a comment below.

10. Jackie Brown (1997)

Click here to view the embedded video.

Quentin Tarantino has always been a film-maker who understands the importance of an opening credit sequence if you think about the men of Reservoir Dogs walking down the street to the strains of Little Green Bag or the robbery in Pulp Fiction these were some of those films most iconic scenes. However for this list I have decided to focus on Tarantino’s third film and perhaps one of his less quoted and less famous films which is a shame as Jackie Brown is one of his better works. Tarantino’s other positive is that he has a great knowledge of film history and to an extent the opening of Jackie Brown is a homage to The Graduate’s opening scene as both feature their lead character at an airport moving along the electronic pathway thingy. For both it represents a significant passage of their life, but for Jackie this is also her workplace as she is a flight attendant. Everything in this sequence is perfectly designed from Jackie’s forward looking expression at the start of the sequence through to her starting to run as she realises she is late to start her shift. And all this is accompanied by Bobby Womack’s Across 110th Street which is a lot cooler than Simon & Garfunkel’s Sound of Silence which was used in that Graduate opening.

9. Run Lola Run (1998)

Click here to view the embedded video.

I’m guessing quite a lot of you aren’t familiar with the plot of Run Lola Run so a quick recap might be needed in order to appreciate the greatness of the opening sequence. It concerns Franka Potente’s Lola who is tasked with finding 100,000 marks for her boyfriend Manni in 20 minutes as he owes it to a crime boss, if Lola can’t find the money then Manni will rob a supermarket. The film is then split into three 20 minute sequences in which different things happen to Lola and the outcome of each run is very different. We also get to see what happens to a lot of the people Lola bumps into during this time so even the extras are important to the plot here. And that links back nicely to this opening as the narrator tells us about how all people are different and we see as the camera bumps into several random people seemingly going through their normal day although these people then gather together to form the letters of the German title – Lola Rennt. The sequence is then seen as animation of Lola running while clocks tick away giving the audience an instant idea that time will be important to the plot and then the main characters are introduced through snap shots of their heads and the names of their characters written below. This is a very easy way of putting a lot of plot into your opening sequence and director Tom Twyker manages to do this while also making it visually interesting.

I was never massive Ridge Racer fan. I was however a Burnout fan.

Burnout was the most fun you could have in a car in a video game since GTA brought in hooker beating.

And now the new title Ridge Racer Unbounded seems to have gone down the Burnout route and made a game that centers around destroying your newly achieved/designed cars and those of your rivals. If I’m looking at this correctly it will also allow you to smash through some parts of the environment.

Brilliant.

It’s no Burnout, but perhaps it’s a better Ridge Racer?

Click here to view the embedded video.

Oh and while I know nothing about the Devil May Cry series, this new one looks pretty fucking sweet.

I’ll have to keep an eye on this:

Click here to view the embedded video.

And finally, it’s been a while since we’ve heard from our man The Gaming Terroriser, but he’s still alive and well and has joined up with the Good Grief lads, and rumour has it he’s even going to be featured on one of the world’s biggest game sites and networks (but I won’t mention until it’s all official). All due to his videos of him doing what he does best – pissing people off.

But for once, he seems to have charmed the pants off of some video game playing girl.

I know, I didn’t know they existed either, but they do. And our Terrence not only went and found one, but he played a game with her, chatted her up and we reckon that if he was prepared to accept that French was spoken outside of France that he’d currently be enjoying some lady love right about now.

But he didn’t, so he’s not.

Check it out…

It does seem to be the form at the moment for producers to make a film from any source, be it books, video games or even theme park rides. However it seems that television keeps getting put up on the big screen no matter how dire the final product is. Occasionally these strike gold at the box office, as did my number one pick, but often they completely misunderstand the point of the TV show and turn into something completely ghastly or totally dull.

10. Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003)

Click here to view the embedded video.

The Show: A campy but fun action-adventure show produced by Aaron Spelling that ran from five years that saw a parade of pretty women hunting down criminals and kicking them in the face a lot as instructed by a mysterious man named Charlie who would contact them through an intercom as well as via the smartly-dressed Bosley

The Film: Admittedly I quite liked the first Charlie’s Angels film it understood the nature of the original show and benefited from having Bill Murray as Bosley and Sam Rockwell as the villain however by the second film Murray was gone and the whole thing played like one big video game created by someone who had severe ADD.

The Main Culprits: Actresses Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz for returning mainly for a paycheck, Liu again for insulting Murray so much that he declined the offer to return for the sequel. Bernie Mac as the new African-American Bosley cousin. Demi Moore as the wooden villain. directorMcG for not putting together a proper film.

Redeeming Feature: I was a big fan of the Bruce Willis cameo at the beginning and I thought Crispin Glover made for a good mysterious figure.

9. Sgt. Bilko (1996)

Click here to view the embedded video.

The Show: One of the first great American sitcoms that started life as The Phil Silvers Show which concerned the life of an incompetent and corrupt sergeant

The Film: An unfunny Steve Martin vehicle in which the character of Bilko isn’t very likeable.

The Main Culprits: Martin was obviously a fan of the show but at this period was at a bit of a low point in his career it is always hard to recreate a memorable character but Martin should’ve never have tried to emulate Silvers. Jonathan Lynn was an odd choice for director seen as he’d mainly directed flops such as Nuns on the Run and Clue and to me he didn’t add anything here.

Redeeming Feature: There wasn’t a sequel and Steve Martin learnt from his mistakes going on to make the great Bowfinger.

I can’t figure out if this is a piss take or deadly serious, although I can’t see how a man of god would be offended by the word vagina, and not offended by Wizard’s Sleeve.

Fuck it, before I give any more away, here’s a brilliant video.

Now, after the feed of pints you had last night celebrating the win, you are probably looking for something quick and easy for breakfast (a packet of Tayto and a Dairy Milk doesn’t count). Why not sit back and enjoy the lovely Aria Giovanni as she shows you how to make a Grilled Cheese Sandwich!

If you missed Part 1 of my Top 10 Game Shows of the 80s and 90s check it out here.

Now on to Part 2.

Enjoy!

5. Blockbusters

Click here to view the embedded video.

Originally Aired: ITV 1983-1993 and then Sky One 1993-1994
strong>Host: Bob Holness

Why it was great: I think due to its simplicity with players having to make it from one side of a board to another by answering questions relating to the letter on the screen advancing to the Gold Run which would result in a better prize each time you got to one. One of my biggest questions with Blockbusters was why it was always one against two, there didn’t seem to be any advantage for the one player but inevitably they did better than the duo sat next to them. The beauty of Blockbusters was that all the contestants were teenagers so their nervous dweeby nature came across as endearing as they looked increasingly embarrassed as Bob read out all their extra-curricular activities. It was also a fun little touch that the teams bought mascots from their schools which Bob would inevitably quiz them about. Holness himself was a great quiz master being incredibly lenient at times, providing extra information and also having a dry sense of humour. And if none of those reasons are good enough for you what about the Blockbusters hand jive?

Was there a rubbish remake?: After Sky bought the rights and Holness’ hosting for one series the format was bought by the BBC who supplanted Michael Aspel in the chair this lasted for one series before Sky bought the rights back in the new millennium this time with Liza Tarbuck hosting, neither of which could hold a candle to Bob and his P-Giving ways.

Useless Trivia: Famously one contestant answered orgasm rather than organism to a question which, while initially embarrassing, became fruitful after the clip appeared on every Auntie’s Bloomers or It’ll Be Alright on the Night style show with him earning a small repeat fee each time it aired.

4. The Krypton Factor

Click here to view the embedded video.

Originally Aired: ITV, 1977-1995
Host: Gordon Burns

Why it was great: A combination of strength and mental agility were needed if you were going to become a champion on The Krypton Factor. Quick-fire questions and the ability to reconstruct a model were challenges put together with flight simulation to make an all-round challenge. There are two fondly remembered rounds though the first being the assault course in which contestants had to go up ropes, through water and go down on a zip wire to win. I always felt this round was a little sexist as the women always got a head start obviously the producers had never heard about equal rights. But the observation round, in which contestants had to spot continuity errors, was always a highlight for me. This began with simple film clips but then morphed into sketches starring such diverse talent as a then unknown Steve Coogan and the duo Hinge and Bracket. In the 1990s this round was even more highly produced with a miniseries airing throughout each run and featuring stars such as Tony Slattery, Michelle Collins, Annabel Giles and Linda Lusardi. As host Burns was firm but fair he never seemed to have much of sense of humour but this wasn’t a game show about banter rather physical and mental skill.

Was there a rubbish remake? : Indeed, ITV bought the show back in 2009 for a two series run with Ben Shepherd hosting. While inoffensive it didn’t have the same charm it once did and the greatly acted Observation Round clips were replaced with snippets from ITV’s soap operas.

Useless Trivia: The Krypton Factor is one of the only ITV shows to be allowed the luxury of not to have an ad break separating its two halves.
